What does ‘Cozy’ Mean?

When you hear the word ‘cozy’ what do you think? What comes to mind? Is it being snuggled up near a window with a hot drink on a cozy day? Is it reading a good book on a foggy Saturday morning? Is it the smell of cinnamon? The taste of your favorite pastry? The sound of soothing music? Your favorite movie after a long day of work?

Or is ‘cozy’ a state of mind?

I think it’s all, and. I think cozy is a physical and emotional manifestation of things that calm our nervous systems. I think cozy is snuggling up as close as we can to safety from the fear of our own mortality, because cozy protects our minds from reality, altering into states of fantasy. This manifests in physical and emotional ways.

When we fear the world, we escape. We numb. We hide. And we use “the love for being cozy” as a coping mechanism to handle the turbulent emotions of being human.

With all this being said, there is poison and medicine in everything. In regards to being cozy, the medicine is in being deeply present with the simple joys in life. Someone who knows how to appreciate the smallest of things, how to slow down, and how to accept what is.

So when I ask if cozy is a state of mind, I say yes. It is both and. Just like everything. Yin and yang. The good and the hard.
